Arts and Crafts Chair Prototype

The design for this cherry dining chair is a chair that was featured in Fine Woodworking magazine.    The construction incorporates 28 mortise and tenon and floating tenon joints that create a strong yet elegant frame. For this prototype, I made a few subtle cosmetic and structural changes to the design to suit my own eye and methods of work.  The finish on this piece is tung oil. The leather used in the seat came from a local tannery that split and dyed the hide specifically for my use.  It has a natural finish and shows some of the character of the hide’s original owner.
